Two Geriatric Physicians Join Provena Medical Group’s New State-of-the-Art Healing Arts Pavilion in New Lenox

NEW LENOX, IL (September 14, 2012) – Neil Sharma, M.D., and Marc Kantar, M.D., who specialize in providing a comprehensive range of geriatric medicine, are the newest doctors to join Provena Medical Group’s new state-of-the-art Healing Arts Pavilion.

Located at 410 East Lincoln Highway (Route 30 near Cooper Rd.), the Healing Arts Pavilion opened in June 2012 and was designed to enhance medical care for people of all ages. The 45,000-square-foot facility is home to an immediate care center for fast medical attention; physician offices offering primary care doctors and specialists in cardiology, , and geriatrics; and high-level diagnostic services.

Dr. Sharma is board certified in family practice medicine, and earned his medical degree from Santosh Medical College in India, where he also completed a 12-month training program on the day-to-day management of geriatric patients with chronic medical issues. He held the position of chief resident for three years at Southern Illinois University Family Medicine Residency Program in Carbondale, Illinois, and was a Geriatric Fellow at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago, where he was awarded Fellow Clinician of the year for 2011-2012.

Fluent in English and Hindi, and conversant in Spanish, Dr. Sharma’s clinical interests include non-operative orthopedics, memory loss, urinary incontinence, and the medical management of various chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol. “I’m dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of geriatric care focused on addressing the complex needs of older adults,” said Dr. Sharma.

Dr. Kantar received his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. He completed a residency in family medicine at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Wisconsin, and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. His clinical interests are geriatric syndromes and diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, urinary incontinence and improving the functional status of elderly patients.

“Geriatric medicine offers a comprehensive and global approach to the usual medical practice. My goal is to help create a better quality of life and autonomy for my patients,” said Dr. Kantar. Fluent in English, French and Arabic, Dr. Kantar also speaks medical Spanish.
