Athlete of the Week: Coglianese States Her Case Twice

Providence senior Mandy Coglianese didn't have an opportunity to advance to state on Thursday, as her track and field teammate, pole vaulter Lindsay Smoljan, did.

Thunderstorms moved in and forced the conclusion of the Class 3A Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional to be moved to Friday. Fortunately for Coglianese, she wasn't superstitious. Her Friday the 13th was filled with plenty of excitement and success.

Coglianese won the 300-meter hurdles, setting a personal-best time of 45.55.

She wasn't finished, though. She later anchored Providence's 4 x 400 relay team, which advanced to state by taking second place behind Lincoln-Way East with a 4:02.84.

For her efforts, Coglianese has earned recognition as Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
