Athlete of the Week: Klyczek Carries Providence at Soldier Field

Senior fullback is the first to find the end zone in 2011 for the Celtics.

Like his teammates, coaches, alumni and members of the media, ’s Jack Kylczek won’t soon forget what happened last football season.

That’s what happens when a team struggles through its first losing season since 1980.

But now the slate is clean. The Celtics, like so many high school teams in the state, got a chance to start anew on Friday.

Kylczek, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound fullback, helped get the Celtics off to a strong start, collecting more than 100 all-purpose yards in a 21-6 victory against Morgan Park on Friday.

Klyczek scored on a 22-yard run to help the Celtics to an early 7-0 lead. He finished with 83 yards on nine carries and 28 receiving yards thanks to a pair of receptions.

For his efforts in Week 1 of the football season, Klyczek has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
