Although it wasn’t a conference contest—it was a Southwest Suburban crossover—it was still a big match for the Warriors. It proved to be the first victory in program history against a fellow District 210 Lincoln-Way school.

Waterland, who is an avid fisherman, dribbled down the sideline in the 61st minute to create the game-winning score.

"The ball came back and then I saw the opening and played a great ball over the top," he said. "I just ran onto it and finished."

Although he didn’t rank where the goal stood in his career, Waterland was pleased.

“It wasn’t our greatest game, but we kept battling and finished one at the end,” he said. “It feels good to be able to get one, especially against a Lincoln-Way team.”

For helping the Warriors make school history, Waterland has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
