Blood Drive Sept. 2

Kevin Molloy State Farm is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, from 3 to 7 p.m. at their office located at 816 West Laraway Road, New Lenox, with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois. Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, formerly Heartland Blood Centers, emphasized that every unit of blood is collected from volunteer donors who meet specific criteria and have been screened according to strict guidelines. Every unit (pint) is collected, transported, tested and stored according to tightly controlled procedures. As part of the process, each donor will be tested for Covid-19 antibodies.

“Blood donations are needed right now, and my team and I are happy to help with this important project. We hope those who are able will sign up to donate blood,” said Kevin Molloy.

Examples of transfusion needs are:

· Cancer: up to 8 units/month

· Bone Marrow Transplant: up to 2 units/day

· Liver Transplant: up to 100 units

· Auto Accident: up to 50 units

· Cardiovascular Surgery: 2-25 units
