The Boneyard Animal Rescue Receives Award

The BoneYard Animal Rescue was selected by the American Public Works Association Southwest Branch to receive the 2014 President’s Choice of Charities Award. The award was presented by Allison Swisher of the Dept. of Public Utilities, Joliet Division at their annual award Luncheon on January 7,2015 at The Patrick Haley Mansion. Jane and Rich Kohlmann, founders of The BoneYard Rescue were present to receive the monetary award of $1000. “We are incredibly honored to have been selected to be the recipient of this award for our rescue”, stated Jane Kohlmann. “The check will be deposited into our special needs account to help pay for dogs that may need specialized training or have costly vet care needs such as Heartworm treatment, dental work/extractions, etc.”

The BoneYard Rescue was formed in February 2014 and although they have purchased a unit for the rescue in the Rock Run Business Park in Joliet, they have remained foster-based. “We were hoping to have the facility complete and open in 2014, however we feel we need to become more visible and known in the community so we can form a solid team of volunteers and fundraisers, before expanding the facility. We are a small organization, all with fulltime jobs so having a team in place first that can manage the shelter is key before moving forward.” The facility’s office area will be used for Meet & Greets and Adoption Events by appointment. The warehouse side will remain unconstructed until a team is in place. The BoneYard has rescued and adopted out 30 dogs in 9 months with only 5 foster families and are hoping 2015 brings more families willing to foster so more dogs can be safe and placed in forever homes.
