We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28
Looking through the trees, one can almost always see at least one dead tree taking up space. It is no longer producing oxygen through photosynthesis, but yet it is not wasting space, for this “dead” wood can be used for many things! It can make warm fires on cold evenings, it can be used in making pieces of art, or it can decay and become food for other “newer” plants to thrive off of.
People are the same way. No one is “useless!” We may not be able to do what we used to do, but we can still “do” things. Someone formerly active in the church that is now unable to get out anymore can write cards to others letting them know that they are supporting them through prayer or perhaps make phone calls to other shut-ins so that they have someone to talk to during an otherwise “lonely” day. Perhaps someone is retired, yet they can drive others that cannot drive to appointments or help with home repairs that others cannot do or afford themselves. A stay-at-home mom with all of her children now in school can help out another young mother with no family living nearby when that young mother needs someone to watch her children while she runs errands.

God has us all here for a purpose. We never outlive our purpose – it just may change its form of duty from time to time. What have you done to serve God in the past? Are you still able to serve in that capacity, or has your ability to serve taken a turn in a new direction?

Heavenly Father, Thank You for always allowing us a way or ways to serve You by serving others. We thank You that there is always a way to accomplish Your will, although it may take on more than one direction or job title. Help us to continue to joyfully serve You in whatever manner You will have us do so. Amen.
