Business Burglaries, Stolen Cars, Fake $100s: Police Blotter

Criminals have been out in full force around New Lenox lately.

NEW LENOX, IL - Here's a look at some of the recent criminal activity being investigated by the New Lenox Police Department. The following information was furnished to Patch by the police.

Jan. 30

Police were dispatched to the Jimmy John’s in the 2300 block of East Lincoln Highway in reference to a counterfeit currency complaint. The officer met with the complainant who advised a customer paid for food using a counterfeit $100 bill.

That same morning, police were dispatched to the TCF Bank in reference to a counterfeit currency complaint at 2400 East Lincoln Highway. The officer met with the complainant who advised a counterfeit $100 bill was received in a deposit from a local business.

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of East Wood Street in reference to a stolen auto. The officer met with the complainant who advised that their car was in the driveway, running with the keys in the ignition, when it was stolen. The crime was reported at 4:57 a.m. The vehicle was recovered the following day in Harvey. The vehicle was running and unoccupied.

Feb. 1

At 1:33 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Highway and Nelson Road in reference to a vehicle in a ditch. The officer located the vehicle and met with the driver, Gezelle Sanchez, 24, of Abe Street in Joliet. The officer learned that Sanchez was under the influence of alcohol and unlawfully in possession of approximately 50 grams of cannabis. Sanchez was transported to the NLPD. Sanchez posted bond and was released.

Feb 2

A police officer on patrol at 3:25 a.m. observed broken glass to the front door of Charles Morris Salon in the 1800 block of East Lincoln Highway. The officer learned that someone forced entry to the business and stole money.

Four hours later: At 7:24 a.m. an officer on patrol observed broken glass to the front door of Natural Choices, located in the 2400 block of East Joliet Highway. The officer learned that someone forced entry to the business and stole money.

There was also another nearby crime. Police found broken glass to the front door of Mo’s Chinese Kitchen in the 2400 block of East Joliet Highway. Police learned that someone forced entry to the business and stole money.
