Today, I saw a group of children making candles the old-fashioned way – by continually dipping a cord into melted wax, allowing it to set and re-dipping until the candle reaches the desired thickness. The children were excited to be doing a “messy” craft – done outside, of course, so the melted wax that dripped off of the candles would fall onto the asphalt instead of the carpeting inside. The candles were then “draped” over a line to finish setting up while the children went about other activities.
Like the wax of the candle on a cord, we can “coat” our heart with the Word of God. As we study the Bible each day, we allow a layer of knowledge from His Holy Word to “set up” on our heart. We can meditate and dwell on what we read each day, allowing that “layer” of knowledge to set into our hearts before adding another layer the next day. Our hearts become a “candle” for God’s love and can “light the way” for others to find their faith in God as we allow His light to “shine” through all we do.

Heavenly Father,
Help us to make the time to “coat” our hearts and minds with Your Word, so that we can let our light shine for all to see. Amen.
