3 Men Blocked I-80 Ramp Before Early Morning Carjacking

A report indicates three suspects carjacked a vehicle on the I-80 ramp to I-355 in New Lenox early Saturday morning.

NEW LENOX, IL -- A reported car jacking took place early Saturday morning on an expressway ramp. An incident was reported on police scanner traffic on the westbound Interstate 80 ramp to northbound Interstate 355.

Three men were blocking the ramp and asked the victim to use his phone before one of the men approached on the passenger side of the car with a gun around 4:35 a.m., according to a report from The Herald-News.

A Northern Illinois Fireground Photos Facebook post indicates the carjackers were three black men who were armed with a black semi automatic handgun at the time. They fled the scene in the victim's car, a 2012 grey Honda.

The victim in the incident was not injured.

I-80 in New Lenox is the southernmost point of the I-355 expressway that connects Chicago's far south suburbs with western and northwestern suburbs. It stretches from New Lenox to Buffalo Grove.

New Lenox Deputy Police Chief April DeSandro said the incident did not occur in the jurisdiction of the New Lenox Police Department. The Herald-News report cited a source from the Illinois State Police.
