5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, 4for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. ~ 1 John 5:1-4
Most children love their parents unconditionally. Since we are human, there are always exceptions to this, but as a rule of thumb, you will find that most children will cling to their parents before clinging to someone else. Children put their trust in their parents, because they know that they will be taken care of - fed, clothed, housed, loved, protected from harm, etc.
When we believe in Christ as our Savior, we are become born of God. We love Him as we love a father who cares for his child. We want to please God by doing what He asks us to do, which is to obey His commandments, laid out for us when Moses met with God on mountain. These are not difficult commandments, although we always seem to break one here and there in our lives. This is why Jesus died for us - to pay for the times we fail to obey, even though we try our very hardest to follow the path to God.

Since Jesus paid the costly price for the many times that we do fail to show our love to God by falling away from His commandments and going on our own path, we have only repent and return to the path God has laid out so specifically for us. We are to show love to Him by loving others as we would want to be loved. In the end, we will conquer this temporary world through our faith by gaining the eternal life that awaits at the end of our earthly existence.

Heavenly Father,
When we see how easy it is to love and follow You, it seems difficult to believe that we often fall away to our own desires. Thank you for giving us the way to forgiveness and ability to return to You through Your Son, Jesus Christ, so that we can still be given our eternal relationship with You some day. Amen.
