Irish Pig BBQ, New Lenox (5 of 5 stars)
The good: It's a very hearty chili packed with flavorful beans and lots of ground beef. There's a good kick to it, but it's not too spicy either. I got a huge portion of chili with generous side cups of cheese and onions, all for less than $5.

The bad: I burnt my tongue trying to eat it too quickly because it was so good.
Little Al's Mokena Inn, Mokena (3 of 5 stars)
The good: I was surprised when a fan of the Mokena Patch Facebook page suggested this downtown watering hole for the best chili in town, but the chili was tasty and plentiful, served up piping hot and had a bigger kick than I expected.

The bad: It was flavorful, but just a touch thinner than I like. This is a classic neighborhood bar that has great eats for the regulars. It's not a restaurant where you go for the fanciest food in town.
Chicago Blu, Frankfort (2.5 of 5 stars)
The good: The sports bar has recently changed its homemade recipe, so this seemed like a perfect time to try it out. The chili tastes meaty on first bite and then hits you with a bit of the spicy right after. It's a nice balance.
The bad: Yes, it's a meaty chili, but the taste is a bit one-note. Also, the menu says it's served with diced onions and cheese, and I didn't get either on mine.
