College Credits: Students Named To Honor Society, Dance In Gala

Stacy Castronova Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Stacy Castronova of New Lenox, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Castronova was initiated at MCPHS University.

Castronova is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Mokena's Kara Bouck, Dance Gala at the University of Iowa stays in motion on virtual stage

The pandemic has halted many longtime traditions this year, but the University of Iowa Department of Dance did not allow it stop the 39th edition of Dance Gala.

Dance Gala maintained its high level of professionalism and artistry, but it with a slightly different viewing experience. Instead of watching at Hancher Auditorium or Space Place Theater, audiences tuned in online to watch more than 35 students bring to life works created by six Department of Dance faculty members.

Kara Bouck, an undergraduate student at Iowa majoring in Dance from Mokena, was one of the students who participated in Dance Gala 2020. Bouck performed in choreographer Eloy Barragan's "Six Feet."

The works were filmed in the Theatre Building's E.C. Mabie Theatre and outdoors around campus.
