Coming Home After Beating Covid-19
After 69 days at Silver Cross Hospital, Ken White of New Lenox, will be going home on Friday, June 12th
After 69 days at Silver Cross Hospital, Ken White of New Lenox, will be going home on Friday, June 12th. On March 31st Ken retired from Elevance Renewable Sciences in Woodridge and on April 5th was admitted to the hospital testing positive for the virus. Being the longest survivor from Silver Cross on a ventilator, Ken spent twenty days on it. Because of the Covid-19, he had to have some toes amputated, will have to have his gallbladder removed, and after losing forty pounds, had a feeding tube inserted. The last few weeks Ken has been in the rehabilitation area of the hospital, and when he comes home has many more weeks of rehab ahead of him. His wife Peggy was also ill with the virus, but was able to recover at home. She is thankful for the kindness of her neighbor who delivered her meals every day while ill.
A surprise welcome home parade is planned for 5 p.m. on Friday, June 12th. Already about 60 cars have responded to his daughter Julie’s Facebook event. Cars are meeting up at the Birdhaven Greenhouse parking lot on Gougar Road in Joliet.
Ken’s response to all that has happened to him- he is thankful to be alive.
