Coming Soon: Extension to Nelson Road
Village acquires last piece of property necessary to bridge the gap of Nelson Road.

New Lenox will finally move forward with an extension to Nelson Road, after years of negotiations and a condemnation lawsuit.
The property owner and the Village settled in court last week, resulting in the owner dedicating the land needed to continue Nelson Road between West Haven Avenue and West Illinois Highway. Village trustees Monday approved an agreement with Pentagon Properties, PDV, LLC and PTV, LLC to acquire the 18.02 acres of farmland.
The property is located south of West Haven Avenue, east of Gougar Road and west of the Aerohaven Subdivision. New Lenox will use a 1-mile portion of it to build the extension.

“We need to connect Nelson Road north and south from those locations,” Mayor Tim Baldermann told Patch. “Since we have limited north/south access in town, this was needed. It also removes traffic off Gear Drive, which is a residential street.”
In return for the property, the Village will complete construction within 24 months of the start date, which is tentatively set for the spring, Baldermann said. Pentagon also received assurance that the village will extend its approval of the developer’s Falcon Ridge subdivision by five years starting at the time of construction.

The Village hopes to have the extension complete by November 2016.
