and your lips from speaking deceit.

14 Depart from evil, and do good;

seek peace, and pursue it.

~ Psalm 34:11-14

It is that time of year again when the we see the yellow school buses transporting children – some excitedly and some reluctantly – returning to school. The school supplies are carefully packed into new backpacks and carried by these students who are now equipped to learn new things throughout the coming school year. Some also carry lunches along with their school supplies to renew their strength during the day.

We as Christians also have our “school supplies” to refer to throughout this same school year. Our Bibles, devotionals, Bible study topic books and prayer journals are available to renew our spiritual strength as we feast upon God’s Word, searching for more knowledge that will draw us closer in relationship to our Heavenly Father. Through this learning process, we are able to carry away precious bits of information that help us remold our way of thinking and communicate with others in more positive ways. This time of continuing education also helps us to better equip ourselves to walk in the light of Christ and away from the dark places that tend to tempt us away from our relationship with God. We can find inner peace by drawing nearer to the life God has us here to live out instead of a life that causes us guilt and distress as we inwardly recognize that we shouldn’t be doing what we are doing.

It is back to school time. Pull out and dust off those Bibles and study materials that may have been neglected over the summer months and dive into God’s Word. You may be surprised at all you will come to learn in the coming year.

Prayer

Lord God,

Help us to open our minds and hearts to learn what You would have us learn from You throughout the coming year. Make us find the time to set aside to delve into Your Word and savor the knowledge that it holds within is pages to help guide us through this life you have blessed us with. Amen.
