COVID-19 Outbreak Reported at Providence Catholic High: IDPH

The outbreak was listed as involving fewer than five students at the high school.

NEW LENOX, IL — The Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday listed an outbreak of COVID-19 at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, according to data published on the IDPH website. There were fewer than five students linked to the outbreak, and the source was listed as sports, according to the website.

It was not clear which sports program was affected or if a quarantine was put in place by the school, which would come at the recommendation of the Will County Health Department. Administrative staff at Providence were not immediately available for comment.

"Outbreak information is reported once clusters of cases are confirmed to be linked by location and time (within 14 days)," according to the IDPH school-related COVID-19 data website. "Some outbreaks are pending processing and evaluation and will be added as more complete information is available. The outbreak information is reported by local health departments to the Illinois Department of Public Health through an outbreak reporting system."
