Crew Smashes Gaming Machines At Gas Station, Demands Cash From Register: New Lenox PD

NEW LENOX, IL — Four suspects smashed gaming machines at a gas station and attempted to take cash from the register before fleeing, New Lenox police said.

Police were called just before 4 a.m. Thursday to Food N Fuel, 2560 N. Cedar Rd., for a burglary in progress. An employee told police that a crew of four had come into the business, used sledgehammers to destroy six gaming machines and stole cash boxes from three of them, according to police reports.

One suspect jumped over the counter and demanded that the employee open the register. The employee said they did not know how to open it. The suspect then took several tobacco products and fled the store.

No customers were present at the machines at the time of the incident and no weapons were displayed to the employee, according to police reports.

No one was injured, police said.

The incident remains under review by investigations for assignment or case closure.
