CVS Slotted for U.S. 30 and Cedar Road
The pharmacy is the latest addition to the stretch of land near the Metra station.

In the next step of redeveloping a swath of land along U.S. 30, Mayor Tim Baldermann announced Monday that the VIllage has secured CVS for a new location near the Metra station.
CVS has presented the Village with a Letter of Intent for $1.8 million, with plans to build on the land upon which BP currently sits, possibly spilling onto other land nearby, Baldermann said. The layout and site plans are still being finalized, and construction could begin early next year.
In June, the Village of New Lenox began assembling parcels of land alongside the Metra station near U.S. 30 and Cedar Road, to turn over to a developer to craft a “quaint downtown.” The properties included the BP gas station, the onetime House of Hughes property, the Pit Stop bar, and a former dry cleaner’s.

Flanking the CVS location will be an 8,000-square-foot building that will house Fleckenstein’s Bakery, and two or three other tenants, Baldermann said, which officials hope to determine in coming weeks. Construction on that building would begin this year.
Roughly one-third of the land remains to be sold, Baldermann said. A tax incentive was not offered to entire CVS into the area.

“All sales tax will come back into the Village,” Baldermann said. “It’s an absolute winner.”
