From Darkness to Light

Devotion on the birth of Christ bringing light into a dark world.

6For it is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness’, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 4:6

This December has been more cloudy than light outside. The grey, dreary days tend to put one into a somber mood, even with the knowledge of Christmas approaching. This darkness really can put a damper on the festivities when rain and/or snow cause the body to ache with stiffness and soreness in the joints.

This dreary darkness reminds me of the world into which our Savior was born. It was groaning under the weight of sin that had accumulated over the centuries after that first sin of disobedience by Adam and Eve. The darkness needed to be overcome and it is with this beautiful gift from our Heavenly Father that the Light of Hope was born in a lowly stable so many years ago. It is with this gift of Light that we are drawn to to bring ourselves out of the darkness of our own sin and eventual death to a new eternal life with Christ.

What a wonderful gift from our Father who created us! May we strive to live in the Light He has provided for us to lead us back to Him. May we also share this Light with others, so that they, too, may find their way back from the darkness.

Prayer

Dearest Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being our Light of Hope leading us out of the darkness to an eternal life with You. Amen.
