Mind Over Miles 8K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk

The is pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Mind Over Miles 8K and 1 Mile Run/Walk.  This special event for adults and children supports the Chamber’s annual scholarship awards, and will take place at Lincoln-Way West High School, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.  

Advance registration is encouraged for this event. Participants may choose to participate in the 8K Certified Run starting in Lincoln-Way West’s parking lot, heading out through nearby residential areas before returning to Lincoln-Way West for a dramatic finish on the football field.  Walking is welcome on the 8K course, but participants need to be aware that the course will reopen to traffic by 8:30 a.m.   The event also features a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and participants have the option to do both. The 8K steps off at 7:30 a.m., followed at roughly 8:30 a.m. by the start of the 1 Mile run/walk.

The 8K Certified Course features professional chip timing with real time results at the finish line.  Medals will be awarded for 1st – 3rd place in age group categories and trophies will be awarded to the overall male and female finishers.  Participants will also receive dri-fit performance shirts and a participant goodie bag full of samples, coupons and certificates. 


The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will take place on the track around the football field; allowing the 8K finishers to cheer for or participate in the 1 Mile with family and friends.  There are sure to be a few surprise characters hitting the track along the way.  Strollers are welcome.   1 Mile paid participants will receive a cotton t-shirt and goodie-bag.  Participants age 8 and under will not receive a t-shirt unless registered as a paid participant but they will receive a finishers ribbon.

All participants and spectators are invited to visit vendor displays and enjoy free pizza, courtesy of Chicago Dough Company, entertainment and refreshments during the post-race party and awards ceremony.

Each year the New Lenox Chamber accepts applications from local high school students planning to attend a technical or trade school, business college or a two or four year college or university upon graduation. 

As sponsorships and matching funds have declined in recent years, The Mind Over Miles event was created to help to fund the scholarships.

“We are very excited about what the Mind Over Miles run and walk means for the community,” explains Chamber CEO Debbera Hypke. “Not only will this event help us continue and hopefully grow our scholarship program, it also provides an opportunity to highlight New Lenox and our businesses to people from all over Chicagoland.” 

Registration is open now through www.active.com. The 8K entry fee is $30 per person ($35 on race day) students with ID are $25 and $10 for the 1 Mile.
