New Lenox Fire Foundation Announces “Controlled Burn” Cook-Off

The New Lenox Fire Protection District Foundation recently announced their plans for a beef cook-off competition using a fire department term called a “Controlled Burn”. The Third annual “Controlled Burn” cook-off will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in conjunction with “Proud American Days” just east of the Walmart store on Route 30.

Interested businesses and organizations may secure information by contacting New Lenox Fire Protection District Foundation Director, Sandra DeLair for an application; rules and regulations may be picked up at that time also. Phone inquiries will be answered by calling 815 462-0023 during business hours. Cooking spaces are limited to a first come first served basis for those wishing to enter this year. The entry fee is $75 dollars with a 13 lb. roast furnished by the Foundation at the day of cooking. Due to space limitations, cooking teams are limited up to three people including the “master chef." All groups are invited including individuals willing to try their hand at barbequing. After judging, the remaining beef will be sliced and sold by the Foundation in sandwiches to the public. Registration deadline is July 1st. Cooking will begin at 7:30 a.m., with judging taking place by celebrity judges at 10:30 a.m.

All proceeds will be used by the Foundation it’s “Save a Life Program” which purchases needed equipment for the Fire Protection District in aiding the citizens of the District in their time of need. Sponsorships are available for advertising local businesses on banners and through local media channels.
