Car Bursts Into Flames, Killing Man On I-80 Sunday

A man was killed in a single vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-80 Sunday morning.

NEW LENOX, IL -- A man was killed Sunday morning in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in New Lenox.

A bulletin from the Illinois State Police indicated that the fatal crash involved only one vehicle and occurred in the westbound lanes of I-80 at I-355. The two right lanes of the expressway were temporarily shut down while traffic was progressing in only the left lane at the time.

Information from the Will County Coroner's Office indicates the vehicle left the roadway, hit a fixed object and burst into flames.

The crash occurred sometime before 11 a.m. Sunday. The victim was pronounced dead at 12:18 p.m.

The identity of the victim remains withheld as of Sunday night pending the notification of next of kin.
