Fleckenstein's Grand Opening A Huge New Lenox Hit

Patch Editor John Ferak visited Fleckenstein's to cover the bakery's first day of business on Tuesday.

NEW LENOX, IL - Tuesday marked a milestone event for the growing community of New Lenox. It was the grand opening of the long-awaited, highly anticipated, Fleckenstein's Bakery. Fleckenstein's opened in the commercial strip plaza along Route 30 near Ace Hardware. By mid-morning, there were heavy rains in New Lenox, but that did not damper the enthusiasm of New Lenox area residents. Hundreds of people visited Fleckenstein's throughout the morning. They were buying cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts and pies.

There were senior citizens, mothers with small children, teenagers, fathers and sons. People of all walks of life were visiting the New Lenox bakery and nobody minded standing in line to place their order.

They were just happy to be a part of local history as Fleckenstein's Bakery officially expanded its business from Mokena into New Lenox.

"It's just nice to be open," Fleckenstein's manager Holly Mrozowski told New Lenox Patch. "It's just been like three years we've been trying to get here."

At first, the bakery wanted to open near the site of the new CVS Pharmacy development near Cedar Road.

The New Lenox Fleckenstein's Bakery will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday. It's closed on Mondays. The address is 352 West Maple St.

"It's been steady all day," Mrozowski told New Lenox Patch mid-morning. "Everybody's super excited that we're finally open. We're very glad to open."

Mrozowski emphasized the New Lenox bakery is a full-service operation. The bakery can make birthday cakes and tiered cakes for all occasions.

"We pretty much do it all," she said.

As expected, the butter cookies were a huge hit with New Lenox customers. The freshly baked Chicago Cubs cookies were outselling the Chicago White Sox cookies by a lot, but, that will likely change in the next couple of years.

Mrozowski could not have asked for a better grand-opening start.

"It's been very good," she told Patch. "Busy, steady, a lot of excitement."
