Flooding Reported In New Lenox After Over 5 Inches Of Rain

Flooding was reported throughout New Lenox after torrential rain on Friday and Saturday.

NEW LENOX, IL — Thunderstorms and torrential rain caused flooding throughout New Lenox over the weekend, closing many area roads and even causing power outages in some towns. According to the National Weather Service, radar estimates and surface rainfall measurements indicate 3 to 8 inches of rain had fallen roughly along the I-80 corridor by Saturday.

The heaviest rainfall amounts so far recorded include: 8.03 inches in Channahon, 7.87 inches in Peotone and 7.61 inches in Seneca. The NWS said New Lenox received 5.27 inches of rain and nearby Mokena received 5.13 inches of rain, while Manhattan received 6.52 inches of rain.

Gougar Road will be closed from Ellis south to Illinois Highway for several days due to infrastructure issues, Mayor Tim Baldermann shared on Facebook. He thanked first responders, the public works department and the emergency services agency for their work during the storms Friday night.
