Forest Preserve Food Truck Fridays Coming To New Lenox

NEW LENOX, IL — The Forest Preserve District of Will County will offer up food truck fare at several of its preserves this spring and summer, starting June 2 at Whalon Lake in Naperville. "Food Truck Fridays" are also slated for Hickory Creek Barrens Nature Preserve in New Lenox and Lake Renwick Preserve in Plainfield.

"A food truck will roll into the preserve every Friday in June," according to the forest preserve district. "One truck will be stationed in each preserve on specified Fridays from 4:30 to 7 p.m."

Nature lovers and food truck fans will be able to purchase delicious treats as they explore local trails. Here's the schedule:

Whalon Lake, Naperville

• June 2 - The Roaming Hog, pork centric cuisine
• June 9 - La Cocinita ("The Little Kitchen"), Venezuelan-inspired Latin American street food
• June 16 - Grumpy Gaucho, empanadas and other food inspired by Argentina, Italy and Spain
• June 23 - To be determined
• June 30 - La Cocinita

Hickory Creek Barrens Nature Preserve, New Lenox

• July 7 - Brother George's BBQ
• July 14 - La Cocinita
• July 21 - Rogue Curbside Kitchen, sandwiches and more
• July 28 - Best Truckin' BBQ, sandwiches and sides

Lake Renwick Preserve – Turtle Lake Access, Plainfield

• Aug. 4 - Rogue Curbside Kitchen
• Aug. 11 - Toasty Cheese, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches
• Aug. 18 - La Cocinita
• Aug. 25 - Grumpy Gaucho

"During each 'Food Truck Friday,' forest preserve staff will be on site with preserve information and items for check out, including binoculars and field guides," according to officials. "Scheduled activities will get you out exploring the preserves and taking in some fresh air and exercise, before or after you nosh to your heart's content on some food truck fare."
