Former Public Works Superintendent Running for Mayor of New Lenox

Ron Sly has announced his candidacy for mayor. He'll attempt to unseat two-term incumbent Tim Baldermann.

Retired Village of New Lenox Public Works employee Ron Sly has announced he is running for mayor of New Lenox in the April 7 municipal election. Sly will challenge two-term incumbent Tim Baldermann for mayor.

Sly is a lifelong resident of New Lenox. He worked 35 years in the New Lenox Public Works department, including 21 years as Superintendent and two years as the Director of Operations. He is a graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School and attended Joliet Junior College, where he taught part-time for 25 years. This is Sly’s first run for public office.

“As a former Village employee, I know firsthand the inner workings of the municipal government,” Sly said. “The residents of New Lenox deserve to receive quality services in line with the taxes they pay.”

Sly chaired the Hickory Creek Watershed Planning Group for seven years, a non-profit environmental protection organization which he helped to establish in 2007. He currently works as an estimator for Bisping Construction.

“I know how this Village is supposed to work and have spent my whole career trying to make it work better,” Sly added. “Our leaders need to address growth issues, improve commercial development standards and ensure tax dollars are handled responsibly. I will work wholeheartedly to accomplish all of this as Mayor.”

Sly is married with two children and one grandchild. He is a lifetime member of the American Public Works Association.
