Gimme 5: Eckberg’s Solid with Glove and Bat
Lincoln-Way West shortstop Myranda Eckberg has helped the Warriors start the season on a high note.
When you see a little shortstop whose last name begins with “Eck,” it’s hard not to make comparisons to overachiever David Eckstein.
At 5-7, Eckstein was a walk-on at University of Florida who went on to have a 10-year major league career. He won World Series titles with Anaheim and St. Louis and was the World Series MVP in 2006.
At 5-3, Lincoln-Way West’s Myranda Eckberg is one of the Warriors' leaders offensively and defensively. Eckberg can make the plays at shortstop and can get the offense going with her bat. She even slugged her first career home run back on March 19 against Bremen.

“She plays a solid shortstop and is a great kid,” Lincoln-Way West coach Heather Novak said. “She’s growing as leader at both short and in the order for us.”
Through April 10, Eckberg was hitting .360 with a .448 on-base percentage.
