"got exactly what he deserved?" Seriously?

Kathy Dettwyler Otto Warmbier North Korea

I was shocked to read the comment made by " FORMER " adjunct faculty member of The University of Delaware. What was even more upsetting was this is a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2. A supposedly educated woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 and as of 2008 has been cancer free for over 8 years. She hails herself as being the go to person when it comes to everything you've always wanted to know about breastfeeding. She is best known for her work studying the duration of breastfeeding in humans as it relates to other mammals, primarily the nonhuman primates.

For a woman who feels she is some role model for mom's everywhere I cannot believe that she actually said that Otto Warmbier " got just what he deserved " This is what happens ( and believe me I know from our own personal experiences ) Give someone a little authority. Stamp a Phd. after their name and they suddenly think they have some divine right to say whatever they care to with no regard to how it effects others. Adding insult to injury of this grieving family. Personally I do not think any parent should have to endure the pain of learning that their son/daughter is finally returning home after being held prisoner in another country. Only to find they have been in a vegetative state for the last 16 months. I'm glad that Ms. Dettwyler deals primarily with non-human primates. Hopefully she will learn something from them? One thing for certain this woman should never be allowed to be in a position where any of her opinions or inappropriate remarks should in any way be presented to others in a classroom situation. If I were to publicly say that maybe it's possible Ms. Dettwyler contracted breast cancer in the first place was because she breastfed her children, or worse yet is she concerned what effects it may have on her children later in life? You can bet I'd have every member of La Leche League burning a heaping pile of nursing bras in my front yard. You're supposed to be an intelligent woman Ms. Dettwyler. Frankly I don't see it. I see all book smarts, no compassion, and no common sense.
