Hot Shot: L-Way Central’s Glennon Honored as Athlete of Week

Senior badminton standout enjoys a perfect 4-0 week to start her final season for the Knights.

The Lincoln-Way Central badminton team opened its season on Monday against Hinsdale South, regarded as one of the top teams in the state. It was part of a quadrangular at Homewood-Flossmoor and certainly tested the Knights, who fell to the Hornets but defeated Oak Forest and Homewood-Flossmoor.

Lincoln-Way Central’s No. 1. singles player, Jessica Glennon, had the daunting task of opening against Hinsdale South’s Andrea McNally, a 13-16 seed in last season’s state tournament.

Glennon prevailed over McNally, 21-14, 14-21, 21-15 and it was the perfect opening and confidence booster for her as she completed a perfect 4-0 week on Thursday with a 21-4, 21-15 win against Joliet Central’s Jada Green.

Glennon’s other two wins during the week included a 21-12, 21-14 decision against Homewood-Flossmoor’s Tara Nye and a 21-10, 21-11 victory over Oak Forest Janine Adams.

“She put in a lot of time in the off-season and traveled around a lot of states playing in different tournaments,” Lincoln-Way Central coach Liz Karales said. “She’s really prepared herself to be a big-time player this year.”
