IHSBCA Summer Baseball Playoffs Begin Monday

The Sandburg regional is jam-packed with all four Lincoln-Way high schools as well as Providence.

The four Lincoln-Way high school baseball teams will begin play in the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) Phil Lawler Summer Classic on Monday. All of the Lincoln-Way teams are in the Sandburg regional with the title game scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The most notable potential matchup would be Providence versus Lincoln-Way North in Frankfort at 7 p.m. on Monday. Providence faces Stagg at 4 p.m. on Monday and would have to win to move on to face the No. 2 seed Phoenix.

Lincoln-Way East will have to rise early in the morning to face Tinley Park at 10 a.m. Monday in a game at Plainfield South, while Lincoln-Way West will battle Romeoville at 11 a.m. Monday at Sandburg.

Lastly, Lincoln-Way Central will host Chicago Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

The tournament is a single-elimination format.

Rebels 8U Wins Niemeier Memorial

The 8-under New Lenox Rebels all-star team won last weekend’s Chase Niemeier Memorial tournament, sweeping through four games, including a 12-2 thumping of the Plainfield Diamond Dawgs in the championship game. The Rebels scored 54 runs in four games, averaging an impressive 13.5 runs per contest.

The Lincoln-Way Yellowjackets travel baseball program has scheduled tryouts for its 2012 season. The Yellowjackets will be offering two teams at the 14-under level next year but no second teams at any other age level. Please visit their website to learn more about how and when to tryout.

Prospects Mining Baseball Gold

The Lincoln-Way Prospects 11-under baseball team won the USSA Bear Claw championship, which it hosted at Lincoln-Way West and Lincoln-Way Central from July 6-10. It was another championship for a team that has posted a 66-4 record so far this spring and summer, while winning the USSSA Rockford, Chillicothe Classic, CABA Tom Pell, Waukesha City of Lights and 12U Glen Ellyn tournaments.

Varga Sets State Swim Record

Lincoln-Way Swim Association's Makayla Varga recently established a new Illinois state record in the 10-under girls 50-meter butterfly as she finished with a time of 32.46 in the Munster USS meet.
