Joliet Man Jailed After Crashing Into New Lenox Tree: Cops

The Joliet man took after hitting the tree, police said.

A Joliet man split after crashing his car into a tree but was tracked down by the cops and jailed.

Matthew Mech, 26, was charged with driving under the influence, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, leaving the scene of an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was taken to the Will County jail.

Mech hit a tree near the corner of Cedar and Central roads about 4 a.m. Thursday.

An “officer was dispatched to the area of Cedar (and) Central (in) reference to a complaint of a vehicle that struck a tree and left the scene,” police said. “The officer located the vehicle and discovered that the driver was under the influence.”

Mech remained in jail Friday evening. He needs $2,500 to get out.
