Joliet Montessori School Sets October 2nd for Fall Open House

All families invited to explore an accredited, local, non-religious alternative to public schools for kids from 36 months to the 9th grade

Joliet Montessori School (JMS) has scheduled the next Open House for the morning of Wednesday, October 2nd at 10 a.m., taking place at the school in Crest Hill.

During the one-hour event, Head of School Heidi Geiger will welcome area families and present information on the Montessori method of education, which is designed to empower developing young minds to learn through natural interaction and intuitive Montessori materials.

She will also share information about the school’s 53-year history in the community, explain the school’s dual Montessori AMI and AMS accreditations and talk through amenities like the before- and after-school care JMS provides. Lastly, she will conduct a tour of active classrooms so visitors may observe the Montessori difference for themselves.

One family’s experience

Seeing a Montessori classroom in action can be a game changer, as JMS parent and School Board of Trustees President Tawnie Cisneros recalls.

“Our public kindergarten experience left my son feeling bored and frustrated, which was so unlike his normally curious, excited self. We knew we had to find an alternative,” Tawnie says. “When my husband and I visited JMS in 2015, we were amazed at how the first-grade classroom worked. The kids were free to move around and talk, yet things were calm and orderly. Each child was learning at their own pace. It was nothing like we expected. But we’ve been here ever since, and our son has grown by leaps and bounds.”

Head of School Heidi Geiger sees this reaction from touring parents again and again. “I love seeing the a-ha moment in parents’ faces every time I lead a tour or observation,” Heidi says. “It’s that moment of magic that makes my job so special, being part of a truly transformative moment for a family.”

“You have to see it to believe it, which is why we invite families to visit us in person,” Heidi adds.

Area families are invited to visit the Open House at JMS on Wednesday, October 2nd, from 10 to 11 a.m. The school is located at 1600 Root Street, at the corner of Weber and Root in Crest Hill. No RSVP is required, but interested families can contact the school at (815) 741-4180 with any questions about the event.
