Joliet Montessori School Summer Camp puts adventure into education
Robots, survival in the wild, time travel and journeys across the globe—they're all in a day's fun at JMS this summer

When school lets out for summer, parents look for activities that lets their kids exercise their muscles—and their brains. For these families with school-age kids up to 8th grade, JMS Summer Camp may be just the ticket.
The school will offer two sessions, running from June 12 to June 30, and from July 10 to August 4. Each session is made up of three or four weeklong programs which can be attended individually, or as a group (full-session enrollments come with a 10% discount).
Parents do not have to have a child enrolled at JMS to participate. Registration for each program closes one week before it begins, so early registration is encouraged.

Camp programs are held at Joliet Montessori School, 1600 Root Street in Crest Hill, at the corner of Root and Weber Road, where Larkin turns into Weber. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with before- and after-camp care available.
The programs cover an amazing array of fun and inspiring subjects. The first session includes three programs:

- June 12-16: Robots! Learn the history of robotics, chart its growing role in our future, and build a problem-solving robot yourself.
- June 19-23: Explore Earth, Water, and Wind! Explore land formations, dive to the bottom of sea and soar into the sky to discover the creatures that populate each one.
- June 26-30: Adventures in Survival! Lean about animal behavior and the natural environment to build a kit that would help you survive if you were an island castaway.
The second session includes four programs ranging from agriculture to science to international cultures:
- July 10-14: Growing with Fruits and Vegetables! We’ll study and cultivate fruit and vegetable seeds to learn how they grow—and how their nutrition helps our bodies grow.
- July 17-21: Discover our Inner Superhero! We explore the everyday superheroes like parents, firemen, police officers, doctors and so forth—and learn how we can be superheroes to others.
- July 24-28: Back to the Future! We will travel through time back to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s before heading to the future to see what’s ahead for us all.
- July 31-August 4: Travel Around the World! Pack your bags! We will create our own passport and travel to France, Italy, Germany, and Japan to learn about their culture, food, and music.
