Board Hires New Athletic Director, Head Football Coach for Lincoln-Way Central

The board approved the staffing decisions at a meeting this week.

Lincoln-Way Central Knights will start the next school year with two new leaders.

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education this week approved the recommendations of Dr. R. Scott Tingley, Superintendent, to hire assistant athletic director Jason Helbling as the 2015–2016 Athletic Director for the Lincoln-Way Central Knights. The Board also approved the hiring of Jeremy Cordell as 2015–2016 physical education teacher and head football coach for the Central Knights.

Jason Helbling has been with the Lincoln-Way District 210 for 10 years, serving in many capacities including physical education teacher, department chair, dean, coach, and assistant athletic director.

“I look forward to working with the coaches, students and administration of Lincoln-Way Central High School to continue the proud traditions of the Knights athletic programs,” said Helbling.

Jason graduated from Munster High School in Munster, Indiana and earned his Bachelor of Arts and Education degree from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana.

He and his wife Gina live in Tinley Park.

Jeremy Cordell is currently the head football coach at Glenbard South High School. Jeremy has 13 years of teaching and coaching experience, the last five years as head football coach.

During his tenure at Glenbard District 87, Jeremy has taught Spanish, Health/P.E., served as a full-time dean of students, and is currently the P.E./Driver Education Department Chair at Glenbard South.

“Coach Cordell is passionate about the development of student athletes. His knowledge and experience of the game will benefit the program at Lincoln-Way Central. He will be an outstanding addition to Lincoln-Way District 210 as we build upon our winning tradition. Coach Cordell is a proven winner,” said Dr. R. Scott Tingley, Superintendent.

Cordell has established a record of excellence during his tenure with the Glenbard District 87. During his three years on the varsity staff as assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator at Glenbard West the team’s record was 31-7.

As head football coach for five seasons at Glenbard South, his overall record was 35-17 winning conference championships three times and his teams qualifying for the state playoffs for the last 4 years. Cordell’s 2014 team set a school record for single season wins with 10.

Jeremy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in Spanish from Illinois State University. He earned his master’s degree in Education/ Spanish from Rockford College. He has also earned his Type 75 administrative credit in education from Concordia University, Chicago and his physical education endorsement from Chicago State University.

He and his family currently live in Wheaton, Illinois.
