L-W Youth Strings Winter Concert Brings Smiles
youth orchestra, concert, music, youth events

Hundreds came out on Saturday, December 17th to hear the 120 member L-W Youth Strings Orchestras perform their Winter Concert. Under the direction of Michelle Freeland, the four L-W Youth Strings Orchestras performed holiday classics and warmed the audience with music by Telemann, Tschaikowsky, Byrd, and many more. Having only played for three months, the Beginning Orchestra played many childhood favorites, while the Cadet Orchestra played music from The Nutcracker, and the 50 plus member Concert Orchestra ended by performing a show-stopping Orange Jam. The Chamber Orchestra performed as well, an ensemble that is trained to performs "gigs" in the community. The Grand Finale, Carol of the Bells, brought all 120 young musicians on stage together and gave way to a standing ovation that brought smiles to young and old alike. The youth orchestra program meets on Saturday mornings, and is accepting new members with playing experience into the program in January. Students without any experience are invited to join next September. Contact Michelle Freeland for more information at youthstrings@lw210.org. Bravo LWYS musicians!
