Let the Children Come...

4 We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. ~ Psalm 78:4

Summer has come, and with it, another round of Vacation Bible School has just begun.  I love watching the eager faces of the children as they go from station to station experiencing the daily activities of the program.  Our adult and youth volunteers put a lot of time, energy and creativity into each year’s program to make the children have a memorable time as they learn about God and His love for them.  So often we hear from the parents as they are signing up their children for the coming event that their child had such a great time the previous year and that they were really looking forward to coming again this year, or that they planned their vacation time around the event so their child could attend.

God stated over and over again in His Word to train up the children to know of all His great works and love for them.  He wants so much for all to know and have a personal relationship with Him.  When a child is trained up in knowing about God and how He wants them to live, even if they deviate in their early adult years from His path, they are able to find their way back to Him much easier than coming to know Him for the first time as an adult.  This is not to say that an adult cannot come to know the Lord, for this happens all of the time, but a child that has been raised in knowing about God will find that He is the answer they have been searching for when they come to the knowledge that something is missing from their life later on, due to the basic knowledge they learned about Him at an earlier age.  Someone that has gone their entire childhood without knowing about God will still find Him, but He will not be one of the first paths they will search down to find the fulfillment that they need in their life.

We are so thankful to have so many wonderful volunteers willing to teach and lead the many children that have come through our church doors.  They are truly blessings from the Lord.  Their willingness to instill in these little ones the love and knowledge of God at a level the children can understand will be a starting point for many of them as they grow into adulthood and a closer relationship with Him.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the many people willing to instill in the young children of today the love and wondrous works You have done for them.  May the children learning about You come to know You as the One Solid Foundation in which to place their trust and love.  Amen.
