Let Your Light Shine Through the Fog of Life!

Devotion on letting your faith shine forth for all to see.

14 ‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.15No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:14-16

I know I have mentioned the pet peeve I have of people not turning on their lights while driving when it is precipitating or when it is foggy. Again today, I wonder how these people think others will see them in this weather and not be hit or be the cause of an accident? Especially the vehicles that tend to blend into the dreary backdrop of the fog, such as the silver, grey or white vehicles during the day? Don’t they realize that they are not only a hazard to themselves, but to others as well?

That brought to mind the story of not hiding your lamp under a bushel basket, but rather letting that lamp shine for all to see. When life is throwing difficulties and challenges our way, or in the way of those we love, we need to make sure that our faith in our Living God shines through the foggy trials to light the way to a better tomorrow. That tomorrow may not actually be “tomorrow.” but a time in the future where we or those we love can look back and actually see that God had led the way through the difficult times to where they are safely on the other side of the trouble they had faced.

If we do not let our faith shine like a guiding light through the haze of trouble in life, we not only create a hazard for us - that our faith may not hold up by keeping it strongly lit with the love of God - but we might create a problem for those we love falling victim to not seeing the light of faith during their difficult times as well. They may stumble, lose their faith or not find God in the midst of the fogginess of uncertainty they are in without our light shining brightly. We must keep our light of faith lit for all to see - in good times and in the dark trials of life - for all those to see. By being the beacon of light in the fogginess of life, we may lead others to the faith and love of Christ that we know will see us through even the darkest times we all must walk from time to time.

Prayer

Lord,
Help my light of faith in You shine brightly at all times, so that through the fog and darkness we encounter during our life, others may see Your love shining forth showing the way to a better tomorrow. Amen.
