Lighting the Way

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’ ~ John 8.12

We all have seen someone we love pass away at some point in our lives.  We all grieve in different ways – some retell stories of times they spent with their loved ones, while others become quiet and withdrawn during their time of mourning.  Some are relieved that their loved one is no longer suffering, while others become angry that their loved one was taken from them.  Most of us, at some point or another, has been afraid of what our own death will bring.  What is it like on the other side?  Will anyone miss us here?  What have we not yet done that we wish to do before we leave this world?

Jesus tells us that we need not fear what lies ahead, for He has brought light to the darkness of this world.  Through His death and resurrection, we, too, can have eternal life.  The light of Jesus’ life and example of how we are to live light the way to everlasting life.  We need not fear what lies ahead in the unknown beyond this life, for Jesus is there waiting for all who believe in Him to join Him one day.  We know that our loved ones that we have lost here to this earth are waiting beside Christ for our triumphal entry into the heavenly gates when our name is called one day as well.  All we have to do is follow and believe!

Prayer

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for lighting our way to an everlasting life with You and our Heavenly Father.  Help us to not stray off of the path You have lit for us to follow.  Amen.
