Lincoln-Way Central Cadet To Compete In National Essay Contest
Abigail Knippel won first place for her essay themed "How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen."

NEW LENOX, IL — A Lincoln-Way Central Junior and cadet in Air Force Junior ROTC will compete nationally in the Sons of the American Revolution Essay Contest. The district said Abigail Knippel won first place for her essay themed “How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen” in the Fox Valley chapter level contest as well as the state level contest on April 4.
The Sons of the American Revolution recognizes superior cadets for their leadership, academic performance and patriotism.
The district said Knippel was awarded a bronze chapter medal and a check for $150 for winning at the chapter level and will be awarded the silver state medal, an engraved ceremonial sabre and a check for $1,000 for winning at the state level. The state awards will be presented at a ceremony on May 11 in Springfield.

Aerospace Science Instructor, MSgt Schliffka said in a release, “Cadet Knippel exemplifies the Air Force JROTC core values of integrity, service before self and excellence. She constantly demonstrates a desire to excel and encourages others to rise above their expectations as well.”
