Lincoln-Way Central Names Nick Olson School's Knight in Shining Armor

Lincoln-Way Central High School student Nick Olson earned the title of Knight in Shining Armor at the school’s prom fashion show pageant-style event hosted by the Student Council on March 26.

For the title, Olson performed a dance routine in a suit he made out of glow sticks, performed a lip sync to Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie”, modeled prom fashions, and answered formal questions. Although known for being outgoing, Olson said this was his first time performing on a stage.

“It was a fun competition. I really enjoyed the crowd reaction, listening to them cheering and laughing throughout the show,” Olson said. “In the minutes before the competition started, I was extremely nervous, but as soon as I stepped on the stage, it went away.”

Olson is involved in a variety of activities including Link Crew, the Welcome Crew and National Honor Society. He also went to the state championship with Central’s wrestling team this year.

“One of the biggest reasons I entered the competition was to save one hundred and seventy dollars on prom tickets,” Olson said, adding that he hasn’t lined up his prom date yet, but his new status has increased his popularity.

After high school, Olson plans to major in biomedical engineering with a pre-medical emphasis.

The other Knight in Shining Armor contestants included Fred Bratuch, Andrew Figlewski, Jonathan Malinowski, and Brandon Ross.
