Lincoln-Way Students Take Top Honors in Science Conference Meet

Lincoln-Way Central hosted the Southwest Suburban School Conference Science meet recently with 250 students from 15 area schools participating. Students from each of the four Lincoln-Way High School District 210 high schools took top honors, placing in several categories.

“Lincoln-Way students enjoy putting their ingenuity and scientific knowledge to the test in this hands-on competition,” said Ruby Brouzas, Lincoln-Way Central Science Club Sponsor, adding that Central had a record 42 students participate. “I commend our students for standing out among their peers from high schools across the region.”

Other administrators and faculty who helped coordinate the science competition include Alex Petrakis, Central Associate Principal; Dustin Waddell, Central Activities and Asset Coordinator; Jeannine Prucha, Central Associate Principal; and Dr. Sarah Highfill, Central Science Department Chair.

Lincoln-Way Central High School

• Balloon Powered Hovercraft: 2nd place: Samantha Mitchell & Emily Shepard
• Egg Drop: 1st place: Gabriela Gross & Liana Chidichimo
• Fermi Questions: 3rd place: Carlos Heredia
• Trebuchet: 3rd place: Alexis Derk & Greg Derk

Lincoln-Way East High School

• Trebuchet: 2nd place: Nick Ferracuti & Slawek Jozwik

Lincoln-Way North High School

• Chemistry (Forensics): 2nd place: Justin Bronzell
• Shoot to Win: 2nd place: Carley Hamann & Bri Cappos
• Towers: 2nd place: Jeremy Kalisz
• Write it do it: 2nd place: Jordan Jackovich & Kylie Snyder

Lincoln-Way West High School

• King of the Hill: 2nd place: Tyler Starkus, Nicholas Ruskowsky & Vincent Abella
• Physics Olympics: 3rd place: Danny Allen, Asim Williams, Christian Panici and Thomas Cochran
