Unfounded Report Of Man With Gun Causes Lockdown At LW Central

Police responded to the area where they spoke to a man, who was just out for a walk in the forest preserve.

NEW LENOX, IL — Lincoln-Way Central was briefly on soft lockdown Thursday morning due to the report of a man walking with a gun in a nearby forest preserve, the Will County Sheriff's office said.

The report turned out to be unfounded, police said. A resident passing the forest preserve saw a man walking with what they believed to be a gun, and they called police.

New Lenox Police Department and Will County Sheriff's office responded, and police spoke with the man who was out for a walk.

The lockdown lasted "minutes," according to the district.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority," the district said via Facebook. "We appreciate the Will County Sheriff’s Department for their quick response."
