LW West Student Brought Pistol to School: D210

District 210 notified parents via telephone blast Monday morning.

Charges are forthcoming for a 16-year-old male Lincoln-Way West High School student who reportedly brought a handgun to the school Monday morning.

The student had shown the gun to friends at a party over the weekend. A female student then reported the incident to school staff on Monday. There were no threats made, according to Will County Sheriff’s officials. 

Lincoln-Way District 210 notified parents this morning via a telephone blast.

“This morning (a student was) found in possession of a family member’s pistol prior to the start of the school day,” the message reads.

“A student notified administrators at West this morning,” the message continues. “The administration and school resource officer found the student, conducted a search of his possessions and found the pistol in his backpack.”

An investigation is ongoing, as charges have yet to be determined.
