Man Charged After Residential Burglary: New Lenox Police Reports

New Lenox police reports through July 13.

The following information is from the New Lenox Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

July 5

  • Casey Rossi, 38, of the 700 block of Brockwood, was charged with DUI-alcohol at 1:29 a.m. in the 400 block of Nelson Road. According to police reports, the officer was called to the Jewel parking lot in reference to a suspicious vehicle which looked as if it had been involved in an accident. The officer met with Rossi and learned she was driving while intoxicated and had been involved in a single-car crash.

  • Maria Vazquez, 37, of Joliet; and Yohana Lopez, 52, of Los Angeles, California; were both charged with retail theft at 8:36 p.m. at Walmart, 501 E. Lincoln Highway. According to police reports, the complainant told police Vazquez and Lopez had switched prices on multiple items and paid lesser amounts for items in the self-checkout lane. The actual total was over $130, and Vazquez and Lopez paid $10.41.

July 9

  • Police were called to Speedway gas station, 301 W. Lincoln Highway, at 1:35 a.m. for a burglar alarm. The officer arrived and found broken glass to the front door where someone had entered. An undetermined amount of cigarettes was stolen.
  • Someone threw paint on a car in the 400 block of South Schoolhouse Road.

July 10

  • Nicole Vahl, 33, of the 800 block of Anderson Road, was charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest at 5:37 p.m. in the 1900 block of Silver Cross Boulevard. According to police reports, officers were called to Anderson Road for a domestic battery. Vahl had scratched the victim's face and bit him on the arm during an argument. Officers told her she was under arrest, and she physically resisted; she was eventually taken into custody. The victim had minor injuries.

July 11

  • Daniel Bakalik, 45, of Mokena, was charged with residential burglary and possession of stolen motor vehicle at 3:38 a.m. in the 100 block of Maple Lane. According to police reports, Bakalik had entered the victim's home through and unlocked door but fled when he heard the victim calling 911. Police found Bakalik walking in the area, and he fled from police. He was found hiding underneath a car and taken into custody. Bakalik was wearing gloves and was in possession of burglary tools. The victim did not know Bakalik and nothing was stolen from the home. Police later found a car in the area, and learned it was stolen in Mokena and driven to the area by Bakalik. Bakalik was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for evaluation as he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He was then taken to the police department.
  • Someone entered an unlocked car in the 600 block of Warbler Lane and stole a garage door opener.
  • Someone entered an unlocked car in the 1400 block of Echo Drive and tried to steal it. The car was driven down the block when the engine died, and it was abandoned.
