NEW LENOX, IL — Two meal trains have been created for the Silver Cross Hospital ICU and Emergency Room staff. As of April 2, the hospital said it has 43 inpatients who have tested positive for coronavirus, with another 29 patients classified as persons under investigation. All 72 remain hospitalized in isolation.

Meal train is a website where people can sign up to send or make meals to another person or organization. For this meal train, the organizer is asking that no personal deliveries or home-cooked meals be sent. Instead, those who sign up can coordinate with local restaurants for the delivery of food.

There are several shifts already filled, and each day there is an option to give food for the day shift or the night shift.

"Many family and friends have asked how they can help with our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," organizers said. "Let's come together to support both our local restaurants and our staff at Silver Cross."

Depending on which department the delivery is for, delivery drivers should call the ICU clerk at 815-300-8001 or the ER clerk at 815-300-1032 to notify their arrival. A staff member will pick up the food at the employee entrance. All food must be packaged in individual servings to protect staff.
