Memorial Fund Started for Children of Hit-And-Run Victim
New Lenox resident Robert Haag was a motorcyclist killed Sept. 14 in Lockport. Fundraiser started for his daughter, 7, and son, 3.
An online fundraising campaign has been started for the children of a New Lenox man killed by a hit-and-run driver earlier this month.
Robert Haag, 35, was on his motorcycle on Sept. 14 around 7 p.m., when he was struck by a car near 8th and State streets in Lockport. Authorities have not yet found a suspect.
Haag leaves behind two young children—Caelen, age 7, and Alan, age 3.
“Robert was one of the most loving, good-humored and caring men I have ever known in my life and if you knew him, you know his children were his world,” wrote organizer and Haag’s cousin Mia Van Eijmeren. “He was a son, brother, cousin, grandson, friend, husband, soldier and most importantly the best father a man could be. He was a hands on Dad, walking his kids to school each day, sewing their Halloween costumes, building endless Lego’s, teaching his kids to ride bikes, cooking, curling hair .... you name it.”
A preliminary fundraising goal has been set at $15,000. Haag was an organ donor, Eljmeren wrote, and she hopes those who knew him will give to his children.
“A 46 yr old man received his heart and a kidney, a 58 yr old man received a kidney and his pancreas, and a 12 yr old little girl received his liver,” she wrote. “His children will grow up knowing what a true hero their Daddy was all the way to the end, but they will not have their Daddy next to them for all their milestones in life.”
