Mokena Man Had Cocaine In New Lenox: PD

Police took Latif for a ride to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

NEW LENOX, IL - A 23-year-old man from Mokena remains locked away from society after being arrested by New Lenox Police on drug charges. Matthew Latif, who lives in the 19800 block of Cambridge Drive, has remained in Will County's Jail since the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 3. Latif faces felony charges in Will County of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, a New Lenox patrol officer saw someone behind the wheel of a car commit a traffic violation so the officer initiated a traffic stop near Old Hickory Road and North Vine Street, reports show.

"The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and observed the passenger of the vehicle throw something out of the window. The officer made contact with the passenger, Latif, and recovered the item thrown from the vehicle. The item was a baggie containing ... cocaine. Latif was transported to the NLPD. The driver of the vehicle was released on scene," police reports indicate.

Latif was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and that's where he remains. His bail was set at $20,000, but Latif does not have $2,000 to post as bond, according to jail logs.
