New I-80 Bridge Installed in New Lenox

The new bridge will open as soon as it is connected to the Old Plank Road Trail.

NEW LENOX, IL - The new bridge over Interstate 80 in New Lenox has been completed. The northern span over the westbound lanes of I-80 went up Wednesday and the southern span over the eastbound lanes was finished before the end of Thursday, according to a news release from the Forest Preserve District of Will County.

The 227-foot bow truss structure will replace a 171-foot two-span structure that has been in place since 1964. It will open once a concrete deck on the bridge is installed and connected to the Old Plank Road Trail. The current bridge will then be demolished.

The Illinois Department of Transportation project is one in a phase of projects planned to improve and widen the I-80/Route 30 interchange.

The new bridge is expected to open sometime in the next two weeks.
