New Lenox Community Emergency Response Team Seeks Volunteers
NL CERT opens signup for spring volunteer training program. Free course teaches emergency preparedness, community response skills.

NEW LENOX, IL — Have you ever noticed the volunteers in bright yellow vests assisting at community events throughout New Lenox? Those dedicated individuals are members of the Village’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)—and their work goes far beyond event support.
The New Lenox CERT program is now accepting registration for its upcoming volunteer training course, offering residents the chance to build valuable emergency response skills while serving their community.
CERT volunteers receive specialized instruction designed to prepare them for effective action during emergencies and disasters. Training topics include disaster preparedness, basic search and rescue, first aid, fire safety, and team-based emergency response fundamentals. Members learn how to help their neighbors, support first responders, and contribute to community resilience when additional assistance is needed.

“The CERT program empowers everyday residents with the skills and confidence to step in during critical moments,” said Simon Harris, New Lenox CERT Program Coordinator.
“Whether supporting our first responders or helping neighbors during a crisis, CERT members play an essential role in keeping the community safe.”

The course is completely free and open to community members of all backgrounds and there is no requirement to be a resident of New Lenox. No prior experience is necessary—only a willingness to learn and serve.
Training Schedule
All classes will be held at New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway.
- Class Sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Start Date: Tuesday, April 7
- Course Duration: April 7–April 30
- Final Exercise & Graduation: Saturday, May 2, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
By the end of the program, participants will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to assist during emergencies, support local response operations, and help protect the well-being of the New Lenox community.
